Over The Shoulder Shot-This shot is taken from the soap opera 'Eastenders'. Over the shoulder shots are mainly used when 2 characters are having a discussion. They are effective as you can sense the mood of the scene from one of the characters facial expressions and body language. For example, in the image above it is clear that the characters are having an argument. This can be seen by the pointing of one of the actresses fingers, as well as the angry look on her face. Over the shoulder shots are usually followed by and Establishing shot.

Establishing Shot- This shot is taken from the TV Drama 'Waterloo Road'. These shots are effective as they show the audience the setting and therefore set the scene. For example, in the picture above it is clear that the programme is based within a school. Establishing shots are usually followed by Long Shots.

Extreme Close Up-This shot is taken from the 2 Part drama 'A Mother's Son'. An extreme close up is effective as it focuses the audiences attention on a particular detail. In this case, the detail concentrates on the emotions of the character and creates a tense atmosphere.
